Basically this. He lost his drive/goal/purpose and although it was presented in a comedic manner, Opal got him back on his feet and gave him a new, much more fulfilling opportunity.
Being a Gym Leader for a cool town like Ballonlea is way better than being a forgettable errandboy for a dumb as fuck CEO. Also, Opal is legit one of the few good characters in SwSh, and hanging out with her has got to be pretty chill.
