I don’t know, I never played it. Still, it’s a spin-off series, and doesn’t hold the same merit as the anime and mainline games.
And if you really wanna include PMD, do you want to include Pokemon Snap, in which all the Pokémon behave like typical animals, but with added fantasy elements?

Yeah sure why not? They basically behave the same in that as they do in the anime, like normal animals.

But you know what's the difference between all those spin offs and pmd? No humans. Without humans pokemon form their own humanlike societies, which is kinda a difference between them and actual non-human real world animals.

That seems to be good enough proof they're literally not 1:1 with earth animals, tho really the fact they can shit out fire balls and lightning should already be proof enough for that.

If it takes an absence of humans for Pokemon to become sapient entities, why even bring up PMD as an example? The general topic here is about human interaction with Pokemon, and when humans are around, Pokemon behave like literal animals with varying degrees of fantasy abilities.

Take for example Shin Megami, the monsters there are the supernatural which include gods and spirits. In Digimon they’re digital data or something like that. In one of those weird anime shows sometimes the monsters are just women wearing costumes. As you can see monster is too broad to just call them that and call it a day.

With Pokémon it’s clear they went in a certain direction. Think about how professor oak in red and blue when speaking directly to the player makes the remark that people keep Pokémon as pets. Remember that this is Oak introducing us to the world of Pokémon. On top of that even if we saw creatures with no real world parallel like Chansey there were plenty of Pokémon in Gen I like Pidgey and others that resemble creatures in the real world and we can identify. They live in familiar environments like caves and forest. They’re familiar creatures but also fantastical. And when you consider certain choices they make it clicks. There’s zero reason for Pokemon food to resemble actual dog food or for Pokémon toys to be replicas of real pet toys unless they want us to see Pokémon in a certain light. There’s areas like Pokémon parks that resemble dog parks too.
