>>47826649started playing pokemon with gen 2, gen 5 was underappreciated for its time, (I know because I talked a bunch of shit about it when I got my first job to pay for it to even play it) and gen 5 was the last-gen they gave something to the older players to be challenged. after that it became babified crap to suck in a new generation of kids in order to hook them on pokemon drug since the older guys were seeing thru the bullshit already
>>47826651right, the point of gen 5 was supposed to be "reset" of the series, with a new route 1, a completely new dex,( which you're conveniently ignoring the fact that up until gen 4, all the pokemon games were littered with gen 1 pokemon)
Gen 5 tried something outside to introduce morality and question the fact that trapping creatures and forcing them to fight others might be fucked up. i think they jumped the shark with the last game with introducing GOD to the universe so I think they tried to go a different route.
XY introduced their own mechanics to genre like every game but relied heavily and marketed the whole Gen 1 nostalgia train with mega-evolutions, the return to the watercolor artsyle(as opposed to the saturated sprites), and the piss easy gameplay. it was made super apparent that they were just using the games as vessel for the anime and merch (even moreso than before) and that they really didn't care about the quality of their games anymore.
pokemon has never been a very high brow game with a riveting gameplay, but you even have to see how XY was the point that GameFreak gave up on putting a bunch of effort and quality into their games and decided to just go thru motions and pander to nostalgia and the kids of people who played the first games.
