No. But Pheromosa has the worst UB design, even if I do kind of like them a bit. The whole point of Ultra Beasts is to make them unlike Pokemon that already exist. To really sell the "invasive species from beyond" thing. Xurkitree, Stakataka, etc do a pretty good job of this. They're just... wrong, in a way that works nicely. But Pheromosa looks enough like the ever-growing heap of animal people 'mons that it just doesn't hold up the concept strongly enough. The only thing about it that works is its own lore, which talks about how it's just absolutely disgusted by everything around it.

I would have liked it if they were more like overpowered minibosses that you could not catch. Beating them adds their data to the Pokédex.

The only mistake was the fact there were so many of them when they could have been spread out more, but I don't blame them when you factor in what I mentioned earlier.

i think this was the point

they were definitely not supposed to look like normal pokemon, something was always supposed to feel 'different' and 'not like a normal pokemon' about them and their designs.

in that regard i think it was a success. was it a good gimmick to explore? that's debatable. but there are always hit-or-miss gimmicks spanning ~1 gen that some are going to hate and some are going to love. E.g. Unown, Megas, Dynamax, etc

The only thing they had to do with Pheromosa was to give it insectoid compound eyes. I don't know why they didn't bother to do that. Otherwise she looks like an unusually detailed waifumon.

I wish Ultra Beasts were like Regional Variants in that they add a few new ones to each generation. It's a great way to explore design concepts that would normally be off-limits to Pokemon.

No, Sugimori said the whole concept behind the Ultra Beasts was to create a creature without adhering to their usual design tenets as stringently - they didn't have to consider things like "how does it move/live/eat/interact with the wolrd, due to them all being conceived as off-worlders.
