You know it makes the most sense. Game Freak don't have time to work on both Legends and full new gen concurrently. Also, between SwSh and Legends, they will feel that they have already maxed out the capabilities of the standard Switch. SwSh 2 will be the easiest option to tide people over while waiting for Gen 9, which will come in 2023 or 2024 on the Switch's successor console. SwSh 2 will be set in the distant future of Galar, giving an opportunity for new characters and a revamped region with new areas and cities, and they will also update the dex further (possibly even add the full national dex) because it's an easy fix that they know will make people happy.
You can choose to cope, or you can choose to rope, but you know it's true. Gen 9 isn't coming for a long time yet. BDSP, Legends and SwSh 2 will be what you have to fill the void between now and Gen 9.
