What're you talking about? This is not really true, Mexico also had to endure the inquisition til the 19th century and we did not lose our history because of it, even if burnings of important indigenous texts and scrolls happened at the start of the conquista. I'm also familiar with Spanish lit and while you always had to take into account the inquisition when publishing a book, you're overestimating the importance they had, many books were also published without their knowing.

Spain and Mexico are not the same countries. Inquisition affected Mexico, but one of the countries that got the biggest impact was Spain (that's why it's called Spanish Inquisition). Some things survived, but almost every trail from older cultures was erased in the central and Southern parts of the country. North still has influences and texts/arts from Celtic cultures, which are inexistent in the rest of the entire country. Major problem was not the control of the literature that was born in that time, it was the destruction of previous things that could remind to anything not related to Christianity.

Are you talking about the preroman populations? Weren't they, by the point the Spanish inquisition started, long forgotten? I don't know anon I still think you're overestimating how strong the inquisition was. I get that they persecuted anything noncatholic but the fact that, for example, the texts and history of Hispanic Muslims (and I think jews too, but I'm not sure) are still well preserved makes me suspect they really did not have the power to just erase history.
