Remember that Ash is supposed to be relatable to Japanese kids growing up in the late ninties. Ash's dad is a salaryman working overseas/in a far away city and lives in the company dorms, sending his paychecks home.
Compare this to Goh and Koharu, who are made to be relatable to Japanese kids growing up now, so they have working mothers and involved fathers.

This is what always bothered me about Game Freak and Pokémon in general.
They never bothered of having a good deep character building and introspection (outside of BW and BW2 and Silver and Giovanni confrontation in HGSS) but just focused on gimmicks when we could have had both.
I wish to know more about any of these characters, what is their backstory and who made them in their lives what they are.

I worded this weird, but what I meant in the original post is that Kukui is a father figure to Ash, they're constantly referred to as an "Alolan father-son"
The Rapidash guy is different, and is probably the most likely candidate

he is his own dad. later in life he will have a run in with celebi and get stranded on the past where he falls for and fucks his own mom, but because ash is so retarded he never knew. he then ends up back in his time, but delia just thinks he is off adventuring.
