Played Emerald, HG and Diamond/Pearl (my brother had the other version). I think HG was garbage (though it had some nice features), and Sinnoh has aged like fucking milk. Emerald's alright.
Took a break in middle school because I
lost my copy of white but I eventually played and finished Unova. Y brought me back into the franchise, and even though I can acknowledge it is a very flawed and very much rushed/not finished game, I still love Kalos enough to have played it three times by this point. ORAS was mediocre at best, but like HG I think it has some ok features to make up for it (I still go back to Emerald when I want the game corner or battle frontier though). Eventually got Sun on release day, even getting a free poster, and while I liked it on the first playthrough on a replay it looked like absolute ass. It definitely didn't hold up that well and the graphics seem like cardboard cutouts at times.
And then Sword and Shield came out.
It's so fucking abysmal, man.
It's actually repulsively insultingly terrible in almost every way. I only got my copy after my local store was closing down and had a ridiculous sale that cut the price in half (and the guarantee that none of the money would see TPCI's wallets). It's an absolute travesty of a game, still. Even though I like some of the designs in Gen 8 it's not nearly enough to redeem any of the buggy brokenness and terrible writing and design that went into that mess.
But I did get a Pokemon I love with all my heart out of it, and now that ability capsules exist my Venusaur can try out VGC for the first time with Chlorophyll. I'm gonna try to use them both together and make a team that works, since they're my favorites and I've a connection to both of them. So even if I hate SWSH, I'm glad I got something out of it anyways.
