>>47897427In the end it doesn't really matter. No one would dare suggest Scooby Doo or any other myriad of talking anthropomorphic dogs aren't, well, dogs. All that goes out the window when the series does not care one bit about it. It's like Dino from the Flintstones, the dinosaur doesn't look like a dog yet he barks and acts like one, we can easily see that he's meant to be a dog despite *not* being an actual dog.
Pokemon is the same. Some Pokemon like Pidgey look like a real animal, some like Chansey and Blissey look completely alien, but that doesn't matter since the series makes it clear that Pokemon are a collective meaning we should see them as being the same. The series treats them as being another type of "fantasy animal". Likewise as stated a few posts above they go out of their way to reinforce this viewpoint with games like New Pokemon Snap throwing any pretentions down the window. And to add emphasis most Pokemon behave less human than talking dogs like scooby doo, the series has a thing where they don't want Pokemon talking except with special cases like Calyrex or Meowth or as a means to advance the plot.
