It's a rushed shitshow for sure, the PWC is conceptually the best idea the anime has had in a while but executed so miserably it's laughable. Even what that, I'm still hyped for Ash v Volkner. It's supposed to be amazingly animated according to leaks and since Iwane is handling it, I am pretty confident in that at least.

Yeah, Volkner is hypothetically so strong that he's just fucking bored with everything. That's why he kept remodeling his gym, and why he considered abandoning his post altogether to try to take the champion title for himself.

The fact that he and Flint are implied to be close and train together helps lend support to the idea that he's a pretty big contender. It's no wonder he's just tearing through Gym Leaders, he's already basically Elite Four material, just without having the title.

It's like they finally realized in XY that they needed to start treating him with respect. It's been long enough. In XY, he was very competent, he had a extremely cute girl that wanted his dick, and a protege that looked up to him, and placed higher than every in the league while also forcing a Champion to sweat. In SM they allowed him to finally win a league (and reference it later), even beating the strongest trainer (using a Legendary) on the Island prior to him. Now in PM, he is one of the strongest trainers in the world, his accomplishments are being referenced, and he already beat Iris, who is the strongest trainer in ALL of Unova.
