Gen 5 is not part of the Golden Era, despite being sprite-based. It has all the characteristics of Gen 6+, bar the visuals.

Gen 5 is the reason Gen 6 and onwards was so bad with nostalgia pandering, they tried a soft reboot with a shit load of new Pokémon and more mature story ideas along with older protagonists, people cried because “muh charizard locked to post game” and so the games became hand holding walk through a full of KANTOOOOOOO
