It turned out that Mike had been abusive to the other team members, and basically was keeping them all tied together in a toxic relationship. He even had the then-girl member of the team in a co-dependent relationship with him. After the team split up, word came out how much of a shitbag Mike had been, in great part because he came out and admitted it, and then he just sort of quietly went away.
