So what exactly is 'Normal' Type? What makes something 'Normal' intrinsically? Is Normal just a vague nondescript energy that doesn't fit with the other types, the absence of typing per se and thus a 'null' qualification, the homogenous source from which other types differentiate from, something else entirely? Just what is Normal type?

There are normal double types so it must be some sort of quality to the Pokemon that makes it normal.

it's definitely not "null" type, as actual null types can be created via burn up.

Probably this, given Arceus is normal and doesn't have a normal plate.
Though its clearly something that does have some intrinsic qualities to it other types do not given there are normal dual types and, as the other anon said, its absolutely not "null".

It's not a null type, it's just a classification of fighting style. Elemental types mean the pokemon has a specialty in using those elements to fight. "Normal" type just means a pokemon's specialty is attacking in what would be considered a "normal" way, with claws, teeth, weight, etc. Comparatively fighting is similar, but honed and focused on martial arts rather than just attacking like a wild animal.

Its just a non-elemental type. As grass, fire and water were called elemental types in gen I and how people also refer elemental types to electric and ice type.

Normal is a default type for anything that does not fit with the other types, and it is usually given to Pokémon based on real life phenomenon. The Normal pure types are mostly based on real animals or are Pokémon that lack the characteristics of other types. Normal dual types have some aspect to their design that dilutes the presence of their other type, such as Pyroar being a brown lion with only a fiery mane or Sawsbuck being a deer with wooden antlers. The presence of the Normal type is best conveyed through Pokémon that would eventually shed that type through evolution. Azurill may know Water type moves but it does not live in the water or interact with water the same way its evolutions can. Swablu is a generic bird that does not obtain its draconian characteristics yet. Sound is associated with the Normal type as well which is why Pokémon like Meloetta, Exploud, and Wigglytuff are part of this type.

I think fighting moves gets a boost with fighting types, but it's dumb to do less damage with normals.
They should hurt like a tackle or a scrath with a litte oomph.
