The anime went to shit when they started repeating episode ideas during Johto, and late Hoenn is when they completely stopped giving a shit with a nosedive in formulaic quality until Diamond and Pearl pulled it back, but then the two years of filler between the 7th and 8th Gyms put them back into a slump there. Best Wishes started with grand ambitions, but then a fucking tsunami ruined Japan, and they had to majorly dial it back. Still kind of comfy in a slice of life way sometimes, but Sun and Moon's anime ended up doing that much, much better later, and that's continued into Pocket Monsters 2019. So really the only thing setting Best Wishes apart now is an abundance of tournament arcs with established side characters, so if that's your thing you might enjoy it. Also, it finally gave us Ash's Pikachu versus Giovannia's Persian during the Meloetta Arc, so that's something at least.
