Depends on what appeal you’re talking about. It’s still fairly popular with the general fanbase, this isn’t like Renamon from Digimon who is not popular with Digimon fans but with coomers.

A big factor is the fact that most of it’s fans were young. Either still kids or barely teenagers and it also came around the time the Internet was on the rise. So this thing was instrumental in easing people into finding Pokémon attractive and making an impression, blaziken and others also helped but I would argue not to the extend Gardevoir did. The next Gen also had Lucario and Lopunny which further cemented it. And it’s no wonder that this perception seeped into the franchise itself like Gardevoir being classified as a cute Pokémon in Gen4 and kinda eroding away whatever they intended it to be, see New Pokémon Snap where wild Gardevoir act cute and twirl around in the wild. It’s also no small wonder that fans pair it up with the playboy bunnny Pokémon and the franchise has done as well to an extend like Meowth dream sequence in the anime or Team Charm or maybe this is just me but the area that introduces the Lopunny line in Gen 8 has bunneary and ralts in the same area, like an old friend being there with you.

Overall my point is that it was a combination of not being ugly, being introduced at the right moment, fans still being children and at the moment when the Internet was on the rise.

The last appearance it had in the anime it was an actor for a movie meanwhile Gallade last appearance in the anime was testing out sirfetch in the anime in a sword fight. Not to mention the latest lore entry it has received in almost 20 years erased anything about it being protective

It devalues the ORIGINAL Dex Entries, because it shows Garde basically doing nothing like what the original dex or anime implied. It's not expending psychic energy or fortelling the future, or showing the player visions. It's not even the forest guardian, that's Shiftry of all things. All Gardevoir does is play in the dirt doing palor tricks for a bunch of literal babies. It doesn't protect the children, that job is given to over Pokemon. It just jangles fucking keys in their faces. Compare Garde in Gen III (Androgynous, but with hints of Masculinity and lots of roles showcasing it's protecting guardian nature) to literally every single thing that came afterwards (lol, Flowers! Pink! Sparkles! Cute shit! It's cute, guys, not independent or cool it's purely cute buy our merch!) and you will immediately notice a shift in how it started getting portrayed.

Based post. He’s basically right sweaties. The one time they chose to give agency to Pokémon in the wild and all they want to show that wild Gardevoir are glorified babysitters. And as mentioned the last appearance it had in the anime it was to act cute as a movie star like Inceleon. Gallade on the other hand did get to act more knightly with the duel with Ash sirfetch. This anon is right that post gen3 there was a shift on the thing. Gallade is probably what they meant Gardevoir to be and Gardevoir is at this point to different than other cutemons. It’s a stark contrast with its role in the first PMD to being part of Team Charm in the sequel and being a glorified babysitter.

It was ok in Gen 6 at best with the Mega and wasn't worth the Mega Slot compared to most things that could do it's role better. Without the Mega, it's hot fucking trash. In Gen 7 it got fucked completely by Tapu Lele and other Pokemon that were just superior to it. In Gen 3 it's just situational. I'd argue that outside of the easy main game it was never that good, it just had a couple of moments where it looked better than it actually was.

Yes, you are.
All Gardevoirs in Gen 3 used by other trainers were male, even in the gamecube games. It was also drawn rougher with sharper edges compared to the overuse of curves it gets now.
