After the 20th anniversary where they gave out all the mythicals. That was around the time I started to really see the flaws in X and Y and ever since then it just hasn't been the same.
That being said I do love the alola games. It just sucks we'll never have a complete pokemon game again because of the jump to 3d and time constraints
