I've used them pretty consistently with some exceptions.
>Blue/LG/Yellow
Pidgeot was used for most of the early game and was a huge help in gym 4. Swapped with Aerodactyl late game though, and it did take some grinding. Still a beloved Pokemon of mine. I did use it in my Yellow playthrough because I tried to mimic Ash's team.
>Gold/HG/Crystal
Noctowl was a companion that followed me most of the game, was in my E4 team in the first fight.
>Sapphire/AlphaSapphire/Emerald
Swellow was where the birds started becoming increasingly based, again in my team early on and later in my E4 team.
>Diamond/Platinum
Staraptor in my opinion was where they became the apex and more than just a fly slave. Though my regional birds have consistently learned fly up up until Sun, it was in my E4 team ands I did use it a lot in online play. Amazing birb overall.
>Black/Black2
Unfezant is shit, heavily disappointing bird. Archeops became my team flying type later on, repeating my Gen I choice of replacing the bird with a fossil. Probably a bad idea because that defeatist skill sucks so bad, but whatever.

I loved Talonflame, back to amazing birbs in Gen 6, however I was already using Charizard so it fell off after my Charizard evolved. Would have loved to use it more.
>Sun
Toucannon wasn't anything special, honestly I forget my E4 team in Sun and I can't be assed to go boot it up to look at the hall of fame. And I haven't yet touched Ultra Sun.
I have yet to play Shield but I will definitely use Corviknight if/when I decide to actually get it. What are some kino Gen VIII mons to use if I decide to bite the bullet and buy Shield?
