No. Most of the people I grew up with were either causal fans or just didn’t care. People were still playing Pokémon into high school and no one bothered them about it as long as you’re not constantly talking about it

What region did you live in?

I lived in an ultraconservative flyover state and in a town filled with people who were either good ol boy christian fundie/neocon NIMBIES or bottom rung sex offender inbred trailer trash and cholo delinquint thugs.

Liking pokemon or not doing very stereotypically manly shit didn't fare well among the demographics lol.

Northeastern US. A lot of people still have the stereotypical mindset about what makes a man and some people still do the typical bandwagon for new trends but most people just didn’t give a fuck about what you did. They stayed in their business and even those who genuinely didn’t see the appeal (especially after middle school) would occasionally ask questions about the newer games with actual interest. Wouldn’t call my childhood town progressive but people weren’t judgmental as long as you weren’t an asshole.

"Past" my childhood years? I got bullied for liking Pokemon as a child, I'm talking 9-11 years old. All the other kids tought they were so much more mature for drawing dicks and smoking in secret, they even used "pokemon" as a name for kids that were seen as childish and inmature.

In middle school my most well known attribute was "gets bullied for liking pokemon", but as soon as I entered high school no one cared anymore.

Around 11 to 14 I moved to a new school and pokémon was not liked there, and I started hating the anime too; it was the Hoenn reset era. But I could hide my power level with the majority and talk about the games with a minority of friends.
