>>47946002I'm usually an SMTfag but I was playing through FireRed today and realised it actually has a lot of things I prefer over SMT.
>Moves aren't all just boring, standard JRPG [element]-[severity level] type skills, a lot of them have gimmicks that make them feel more unique>there are no "boss" enemies that are arbitrarily immune to status effects, status effects often have high or sometimes guaranteed chances of hitting and their chance to work is clearly displayed in the menu>recovery items feel somewhat limited in the early game, if you don't just OHKO everything with super-effective moves there's an actual element of attrition to exploring routes/dungeons>area design is more fun, random encounters being limited to certain tiles within dungeons feels less tedious than them being everywhere, trainer battles you can dodge are cool, maps have occasional puzzles, teleport/spinner mazes, make good use of one-way ledges, darkness feels more impactful than in SMT if you don't use flash, world has a vaguely metroidvania feel to itI've been sleeping on Pokemon for too long honestly, this game's cool.
