I also have to give props to Sinnoh because it's almost the exact opposite of my problem with Hoenn (the tropes are fucking stellar but a fair amount of the other early-game mons aren't my thing), but manages to hold up its non-tropey mons better than Hoenn holds up its tropey ones and Kalos just for having so much shit crammed into its first few routes that you could feasibly build an awesome team with at least half of the mons included on them and take that team straight to the e4 with no problems at all
