Lets be honest, 2D is superior to 3D in every way imaginable, 3D pokemon was bound to always happen, but honestly in terms of gameplay and from what’s been shown, it’s good that they kept it faithful with no megas or bullshit gimmicks

This is actually THE most retarded mechanic I've seen in any Pokemon game just because of how nonsensically arbitrary it is.
A developer sat down, saw that following Pokemon was super popular, then decided that their Speed stats should effect their following speed...
If it ended there, it wouldn't be so bad
But they THEN decided not to cap the maximum distance that they could fall behind the player to the point where they would fade out then load back in closer to you
It actually blows my mind how asinine of a decision this is.

If it had to be speed based then since they did walk and run cycles for every pokemon in gen 7 I would've preferred if slow pokemon always ran but would fall maybe 4 steps behind while the player runs and only 1 while the player walks, fast pokemon would keep up to running by getting fancy with it going around the player like zigzagoon walking in zigzags and maybe running a step or two ahead of the player. Just imply they're faster or slower without letting them get too far away.

I'm actually happy with how it turns out.
I like the artstyle and am happy that they didn't remove anything, and added some new features.
I'm way more worried about Legends now.

They had that shit in HGSS, everyone loved it, spent fifty years asking for it, and GF decided "let's put it ONLY in absolute stains on the franchise"

Also the normal Pokemon models look extremely silly next to the bobblehead humans and you just know it's because they couldn't be arsed to even slightly tweak the models for the overworld.
