It's like pulling teeth. SM uses either your TID or PID (unsure which, but it's set when you start the game) in calcs for shinies through breeding. It essentially fixes the seed, so you can magikarp swap-breed for shit, but at the same point, SOS is a more reliable method of getting shinies in Alola.

Zubat was the first shiny I ever got, but it was in a rom of Ruby in like 2005 before easy injection was a thing. I'm trying to get another one fair and square in tribute to the shiny that was lost years ago.

This is from some time ago. When I was trying to hunt a special Trophy Garden Pokémon via Radar in Platinum, it appeared so many Roselia breaking my chaims or just nonstop appearing before I find the Pokémon I need to chain for, that I got mad like "fine, if you boutta annoy me I'll hunt the hell out of you" and I instead Radar hunted for Roselia that very moment. Deadass got a shiny first try lol.

Not in the slightest. I do not care if injecting is quicker and easier, I will always have more respect for the shinies gotten legitimately. A shiny is, after all, both a gift made by the game or another player, as well as a trophy for your work in case you hunted for it. For me at least, an injected shiny is no more worthy than a level 1 Magikarp, plain and simple.

I'm using a dry battery to abuse the RNG in Ruby - I got the trainer ID right, and found the frame I need to get the shiny starter- I swear I've hit the frame before and after it a dozen times.

SWSH gave me squaretism and I am now re-hunting EVERY shiny I ever caught in previous games that isn't already a square shiny. GO and LGPE having guaranteed square shinies with much higher shiny rates helps a lot, but unfortunately GF went full GF and made Dynamax Adventures shinies guaranteed stars, so I can't have square shiny Zygarde, Solgaleo, Lunala, and Necrozma with my own OT. Feelsbadman.

Well, that was awfully quick!
Zekrom shone about 25 minutes after making my previous post.
Everything worked out fine. Caught it in a Heavy Ball and the Synchronizer worked, too.
I think that'll be enough Ultra Wormhole hunting in UM for today. I'll save my three remaining targets for another day and do some swap-breeding instead.

I've got 2 shiny bibarels in platinum now. One from lucky egg hunting (1 year ago) and one from EV training (a few days ago). Also encountered a shiny snubbull yesterday when there was a swarm in route 209

How long does it usually take to shiny hunt in platinum with the poke radar? Every time I try using the radar the chain breaks around 10-15. Is it something you need to keep attempting over and over again to reach 40?

i was in the same boat, and from watching a couple things the ruleset seems to be
>go for grass that's 4 steps away (of course, same grass that you started your chain with)
>avoid patches in your line of sight (straight ahead, up, down, behind)
>avoid patches on the edges or are too close to eachother
>make sure the max number of patches (4) show up, for some reason i guess it fucks with it in some way
managed to get two togepi by following that after only getting to around 25 at best. though sadly, you never have a 100% chance of it being the thing you want even if you do everything correctly because gamefreak felt like assholes i guess.

I only hunt for perfect Gen2 shinies (08/15 dvs) in my original copy of Crystal while playing on my old GBC

It is a lifelong quest and I've had great success

My most recent find was a Heracross
I nicknamed it NataliMars because it reminded me of her big manly shoulders
Plus its pink color even made it look like a tranny that was trying to pass

One time I encountered a shiny ditto when i was chaining for high iv dittos in SuMo but I brainlessly killed it and so I decided to chain until I got another and it took me 2000+ encounters
