They're not all the exact same, but I get what you're saying. Unless you're trolling, in which case, fuck you. Anyway, Ash is a proxy for Red (or at least he once was), and the anime is an advertisement for the games.

He's basically a proxy for everyone, not just Red, of course they can't just change his appearence that drastically(specially because they want him as an icon rather than as a character) so he'll never deviate much from Red.
Victor is arguably the one that deviates the most alongside maybe Nate and Brendan, which is why they were passed.
Neat that GF isn't forced to just make every MC Red-ish for Ash's sake though.
