They're escalating far too fast in the opposite direction that it's going to be ridiculously jarring when Ash goes from trouncing Champions and Champion-level trainers to getting fucked up by an Average Joe character of the day who, despite being able to conquer the rising star of the World Coronation Series, the literal global metric for the strongest trainer in the entire Pokemon world, never actually bothered competing in it themselves.
