I can understand not wanting open world for games full of content, but when all a franchise proposes is collecting wild creature and fighting other trainers, I'd rather do it across a massive map rather than in some small ass corridor

Pokemon is a JRPG. JRPGs are well-crafted linear experiences that design each area around how powerful you should be at that point in the game.

An "open world" game can't do that. Because you can go anywhere, everything has to be beatable for the weakest level.

Then just do divided areas. Some bigger than others. Not everything has to be a vast and easily accessible open world. It consumes too much time, resources and causes the game to be pushed to its limit, making it so open worlds have to be barren and empty just so the framerate doesn't drop.
