How do I rekindle my interest in Pokemon games again?

I'm still getting a lot of nostalgic value out of Pokemon. I like discussing it, speculating, shitposting, watching YouTubers do silly challenges, fapping, sometimes I even go back to the anime.
But I just can't play the games. They're fucking boring. I download the ROM of whatever gen I wanna play, get bored two sessions in, and drop it forever without even finishing the story. Again and again.
How do I fix this?

Have you tried doing one of these challenges that you like watching? While they may seem like old hat, nuzlocke runs are really good at making you much more invested in battles and your party than you normally would be.
Though like >>48000707 said, you might just have grown out of it. You don't have to force yourself to try and enjoy something you don't.

I can always play something else, and I do. But I also want to continue enjoying Pokemon games. The concept definitely still appeals to me, but normal Pokemon games just don't scratch that itch anymore. I thought about giving romhacks a shot, but most of them seem to be either edgy reimaginings with shitty fakemons, or tryhard kaizo hacks.

hey uh I'm somewhat like anon- i've been a bit burnt out on the series for about 3 months now (though I attribute a majority of that to me playing the series almost nonstop for a year straight), probably because it's gotten to the point where I can't play a game without stressing about type matchups or what team i'll use or just generally how everything's way too slow and I need my team right now. it kind of stresses me out. I've tried doing a Johto run to calm my nerves since that's the most laid-back of all the games in the franchise imo but that didn't help much- I got about 5 gyms in and had to put it down after overhauling my entire team because the stress got to me again. have also tried nuzlockes but for obvious reasons that didn't help (mm yes make me stress out about my team even more by not letting me choose the members and by having faints = death, great idea).

any suggestions on how to not be a retard? anything you can muster'll probably help, and if OP's issues are anything like mine (since he didn't elaborate much beyond "they're boring") then maybe this'll help him too

there are a few that aren't super edgy and actually pretty decent (Prism, Gaia, Sage (though that's a demo at best and stuck in development hell), GS Reforged, and Rocket Edition (if you're okay with edginess going so far off the rails that it's comical; it's not meant to be super serious and deep like Reborn or some shit)) but I can't really recommend much, if you want a pokemon-ish experience that has a little bit of difference but is mostly a carbon copy try out Nexomon or Coromon (though I can't guarantee that either are good at all, Nexomon especially is somewhat shit but it's at least playable)
