How do we even know if this guy and Basculegion actually evolve from a regular Stantler and Basculin? I wanna believe as much as everyone else is but after what happened with Sirfetch'd and Kantonian Farfetche'd I'm not being tricked again.

to OP’s point none of those are new pokemon. we haven’t gotten a real cross gen evo since Sylveon, but i personally believe that Basculegion HAS to be a proper evolution to the real Basculin as it shares far more design traits with it than any other speculated cross gen like Sirfetch’d or even Wyrdeer

Wyrdeer's design isn't a big enough departure from Stantler to justify there being a regional variant to go along with it, it itself could pass as H-Stantler, same with Basculegion. This isn't an Obstagoon situation where it looks like its from a totally different line, it looks like Winter Stantler and not much else

Wyrdeer and Basculegion have too many similarities with the regular Pokémon. I can understand why they wanted to do a G-Farfech'd to gave it a bigger leek that justifies the even bigger spear and shield, but it wasn't necessary. Moreover Wyrdeer already looks a H-Stantler. If Stantler gets a form it will feel redundant. Basculegion is a completely new design but they share colors and facial features.

I was wondering about that too. The thing is that Stantler and Basculin don't get a boost from Evoilite, and so far they've avoided having to retcon other pokemon's ability to get a boost from it through regional forms. Farfetch'd got an evolution but it's only for the regional variant, so Evoilite still doesn't work on kanto Farfetch'd while it does on Galarian Farfetch'd. Of course, they actually started retconning stuff in Gen 8, such as Eevee being able to evolve with a leaf stone, so it's still possible they might start applying that to who is effected by Evoilite, too.

I think they made the regional form because european leeks are bigger than japanese leeks, so the spear/shield didn't make sense with the leek regular Farfetch'd have.

However there are a chance that we are getting a Samurai evolution for regular Farfetch'd because a katana could make sense with a thinner leek

Sirfetch’d has a European Knight theme that takes away from the loosely Samurai-style inspirations Kantonian Farfetch’d gets - and, as you said, had a totally different typing.

Basculegion deviates from Basculin’s gang theme, but more in a redirect than a removal. Wyrdeer is just a direct development of Stanter to the point people say it looks like a literally older stantler. Combined with their types and the fact that Sinnoh was the last game with multiple true crossgens, I’m pretty confident they’re traditional cross gens.

I think the latest generation adding Grass/Ice Stone use to Eevee shows Gamefreak is more willing to retcon things than they were in the past. I’ve said it before, but say they are bringing back true cross-Gen evolutions...it’d be easy enough to have a throwaway line in a random NPC dialogue mentioning how “Eviolite seems to work differently in the ____ region” to cover themselves.
Plus, it’s easier for them to give it use to more Pokémon than remove it, so that’s a plus.

I know Gamefreak are retards but do you really think they would design whole new Pokémon just for them to be mounts in 1 spin-off game? The closest they've gone to that was shadow Lugia and in the end it's literally just Lugia but purple, there's no way they would do this with actual new Pokémon

What do you mean "clearly?" They are only shown as mounts in the trailer. They will probably be summonable after the Galaxy Expedition Team (or whatever it's called) gives them to you at certain points in the game.

1. Wyrdeer looks too much like regular Stantler and only gains the psychic typing, a Husian Stantler would need to be Normal-Psychic in order to have a regional evolution, which kinda makes Wyrdeer redunant.

2. Basculegion looks just like regular basculin and its description meantions it gaining the ghost type due to absorbing spirits of dead Basculin.

3.Why is it so hard to believe that these are just regular evolutions, ones that got lost over time due to Stantler and Basculin disappearing from the region over time..

Yes and the ride Pokemon in PLA are also most likely gimmicks exclusive to PLA. I'm not saying it's impossible that GF could update SWSH to make them transferrable, but it's unlikely. Just keep your expectations realistic for PLA and what was shown in the trailer.

If I didn't know better I'd think it were a spin-off title too. But we learned from LGPE that anything Pokémon title Game Freak develops (that isn't obviously a spin-off like Quest) will be classified as a main entry of the series.

Where is the rule that a spinoff can't be a prequel to the mainline games? It's a spinoff in the mechanics sense, not in the timeline sense. There are multiple timelines within the mainline series anyway. There has never been a clearly-defined line between mainline games and spinoff games ever since Pokemon Stadium on the N64. Even some games that are clearly spinoffs like Pokemon Channel and Pokemon Ranger had Pokemon that were transferrable to the mainline games.

Obviously what is "mainline" and what is a "spinoff" is just a distinction within the fanbase. GF has never made a game like PLA before, so there is not some "rule" that says under which classification it must fall.

The rule comes from the fact that they're contradictory. The idea of a spin off is to use the characters but have no ties to the mainline story. And that goes for every franchise Mario, sonic, pokemon etc.

Mainline and spinoff have quickly become arbitrary terms anyway, everyone's definition is a little different. The mechanics being different shouldn't immediately qualify the game for spinoff status, especially since it's largely adding to the current mechanics, with the only takeaway seeming to be abilities. If they can't change the mainline mechanics at all without making the game a spinoff then the mainline games would barely ever change. What about Legends makes it a spinoff, exactly? Having to aim your Poke Ball? CTB combat? The open map? The different progression structure? Where is the line drawn? I always assumed Colosseum and XD were spinoffs because they weren't made by Game Freak, were on different hardware than the rest of the games, and were structured differently. They're as close as you could get to not being spinoffs because they're almost mechanically identical, but they're still spinoffs. What makes Legends a spinfoff if it's just the next Pokemon RPG from Game Freak?

The general rule of thumb is that only mainline games introduce new pokemon. There are only three instances that break away from this
Meltan in Pokemon Go as a collaborative effort
And the DP delay that forced the spin offs and movies to introduce several gen 4 pokemon first in order to keep to the schedule.

Not exactly. The anime series is a promotional tool first and foremost as it is, its not an instance of having playable Mon or events like a movie would. In other words its used to prep a reveal and such.
That said Lugia was designed for the anime first if I remember right which would really make it the second true instance of a Mon being introduced before the games.

Lucaro is the only main movie Mon that didn't have an event, presumably had the game released on time an event would have made.
And before you bring up Zoroark the shiny legendary beasts unlocked it in Black and White as part of an in game event.

Yeah, but Sirfetchd also become pure Fighting out of nowhere. Wyrdeer's typing is only an addition to Stantler and it also relates to the dex entries and moves Stantler has. Basculegion is also explained due to the deaths of basculin and it has a similar color scheme.
