This wouldn’t have been so upsetting besides the fact that Gen 4 was complete dogshit without any good Pokémon worth catching the entire game and finally thought I’d get a good one. Like did Gamefreak make the entire game trash with awful slow just for the Haunter prank trade to sting worse?

Because the whole trade's a waste of time. It's about the fact GameFreak deliberately went out of their way to waste their OWN time on a procedure that would waste YOUR time, for no reason other than a "teehee, betcha expected to get a Gengar, right?" joke. One that's just plain mean to the sizable portion of the fanbase who couldn't even GET Gengar in any previous games because they either lack friends interested in Pokemon, or aren't wealthy enough to afford two systems and two games to trade with themselves.
I guarantee you the only reason they did this to begin with was to squeeze further sales out of game guides and the Gen 3 games for the GBA Slot Encounters, because what fucking kid that isn't internet savvy enough to look those things up would think to do that to get their own Gengar from the Old Chateau?

This game came out with the whole dual cartridge thing. Anyone and their mother had a copy of Leaf Green or Fire Red or whatever game you needed to make Gengar appear in Old Chateau. Don't see the big deal.

The majority of the Gen 4 dex is trash, but there's a few good ones. I still can't believe how they managed to fuck up so hard, it's the gen with the most legendaries/mythicals and they're all trash except for Darkrai.
