>>48040739First it would depend if you're going for the tiled approach or if you want almost every part of the world to look unique like in the Ecruteak image, and how big you want the world to be, but either option would be realistic for small studios or crypto wealthy guys, the guys who did Johto Redrawn basically each took their own personal time to work on their squares for free, so it's not that big of an undertaking if it's being paid.
However the issues arise when you consider the license you'll be purchasing (the same artist would charge 20x for the same art depending on if it's being commissioned for someone's private use vs a big company commissioning assets for their product) and the fact the game would be C&Ded before it could see the light of day.
