>>48037234Only Volkner was good.
Octillery is really fitting for the Sunnyshore Gym Leader because it creates this underlying theme that Volkner represents his shoreside city as opposed to just his type. It's aesthetically pleasing. Not nearly to the same extent as Karen's Vileplume mind you, but it works.
Platinum did Candice much better, as she follows up a Snow Warning Abomasnow with a Snow Cloak Frosslass. It's really good. In Diamond and Pearl, the scariest thing on her team is her Medicham. Which isn't nearly as cool as her competently put together Ice-team. No pun intended. Both teams don't compare to her Regi team from that alternate Diamond and Pearl manga, but that manga isn't that good, so whatever.
>Elite FourYes and no. Aaron actually has the same ratio of Bug-type to non-Bug-types in both games. It's because Drapion evolves from Skorupi, which is a Bug-type, that it's maintained on his team. Drapion is a scorpion anyway, and it's super obvious, so that fits. In the same way Lance's team is composed of Dragons that are not of that type. Bertha's Sudowoodo gets a Special Defense buff due to Sandstorm, which two of her Pokemon know and also gets triggered by her ace's Sand Stream. Her Golem benefits from this also. It's a really cool team, to say nothing of its supposed viability.
Flint in the first two games is almost completely inexcusable though. He may as well not have a specialty. On the off chance you're using one of the few Fire-types in the game or even if you just have a Fire-type move, his Steelix is basically non-existent. On paper it looks like it just exists to be sack'd honestly. But I have no idea how this plays out in game. I don't replay DP. Only Platinum. The only non-Monotype member of his team that's a little cool is Drifblim. Admittedly, Lopunny is neat but it doesn't fit nearly as well as Drifblim, which has Will-O-Wisp and is... well, a blimp. But all in all his Platinum team is better.
