DP and XY are both considered to be the best series in the anime

DP did a far, far better job at developing the characters.

In XY it feels like most of Ash’s Pokemon just conveniently become good off screen with Greninja also getting a retarded asspull power up that’s only really foreshadowed like 3 episodes before it happens while with DP you see each Pokemon’s strengths and weaknesses developing through the entire series. Also it’s hilarious how Ash’s main rival is introduced way too late into the series and he’s introduced as this novice who’s terrible at battling but then the show has to rush and suddenly make him better than Ash within the span of Ash getting 1 badge just to make it feel like Greninja accomplished something instead of just jobbing at the league.

What? Brock get's literally no development, and Dawn's is minimal at best. It did decently well with the pokemon cast, but the XY cast did the human development better.

Yes, Brock is shit, but so is Clemont. His “development” basically just boils down to wanting to suck Ash’s dick like everyone else in the show. Saying Dawn gets minimal development is flat out false. Did you miss the entire arc she had after she lost twice in a row during the same timespan that Serena was doing nothing for 50 episodes except lusting over Ash?

What arc? He exists pretty much all of the series just for a running gag to exist and for there to be the token traveling partner who can cook food and give exposition about game mechanics.

There was a sense of completeness despite Ash losing against Tobias. But Ash losing to Alain for the third time in a row is like Ash not beating Paul in the Sinnoh League. It left a bad taste in everyone's mouth. No one gives a fuck about Shouta, he was never the main rival. He was just there to be Ash's punching bag. All of Greninja's build up went into nothing.

I disagree, having the movies actually connect to each other was a first for the franchise and done decently. Even the fourth standalone movie is leagues better than BW and XY shitfest of films.

Not really my point. My point is each movie builds upon the previous. Having each film be fine to watch standalone is ok, but understanding previous context is just another bonus to them. Rewatching them compared to BW and XY was like a breath of fresh air. Shaymin is the worst by far, but still better than anything I have seen from Gen 5 on.

It adds more context than "Hoopa just appears out of nowhere" with literally no explanation whatsoever. Why are Dialga and Palkia fighting? Oh its explained later. Why does Giratina care about Diaga? Oh ok because of what happened previously. The fact that they connect just adds more to the store than otherwise. Its essentially a story told over three movies. Like I said, they definitely could have changed some stuff, but compared to later shit, its much better.

I think you're vastly overstating how much value is added to the story by that 'context,' and like I said, baring the Darkrai one, they were completely dreadful. If you're going to praise something about those movies, don't let it be the narrative.
The Hoopa movie was awful, wholeheartedly agree on that. The Diancie one was bland, but had some cute scenes in it and the volcanion one wasn't that bad.

Idk, Arceus had some pretty hype moments like the battle scenes with the Creation Trio. Overall not a terrible movie, but not the best. Shaymin sucks. Hoopa should have been a movie filled with hype, yet every battle was boring and uneventful.

Hype is the biggest problem with the Hoopa movie. It was advertised to an extreme degree, and conceptually it had arguably the most potential out of any pokemon movie. It just dropped the ball really fucking hard, and it's failure to meet any expectations makes it a really bad movie.

It was retarded on so many fronts, but my biggest gripe with it is solely the fact that instead of making it a battle royale between legends, they chose to make some good and the rest bad. It's purely wasted potential, and them making the 'good' ones shiny/mega made no fucking sense either.

It's a shame too, because the other XY films weren't nearly as bad but they get tend to get lumped together.

I don't get it either. Imo, Latios and Latias shouldn't have even been there. Just a blatant advertisement for ORAS. Not to mention the huge plot hole of spacetime warps when the Creation Trio are literally right there. Writers are just pulling stuff out of their ass and it shows. I've always wanted a kind of legendary focuses anime series where we get to see the history of legendaries and their rivalries with others.

Ya No, XY was never considered the best series.
Only bunch of neets are obsessed with XY and XY&Z who are also into Isekai, idol anime and believe Hinata Hyuga to be most well written female character in anime.

Its like Dexit, they felt like a huge group that would boycott SWSH but turns out they are just 0.1% of total fanbase of pokemon. That's why XY and XY&Z feels so popular in Internet but it wasn't even popular than Youkai Watch.

DP. Many of Ash's best league battles happened in this series, the first three movies were connected (while XY's movies killed the original movie format due to how poorly they performed) and Paul is one of Ash's best rivals. Meanwhile I couldn't get into XY so while I have my problems with DP it was still a series I watched a fair amount of.
