Reminder that you take damage during combat you have to move your character during battle to avoid it. It is not exactly, turn-based.

when you get damaged in the overworld, the edge of the screen dims to represent your HP. In this battle, nothing happens when you fall over. You literally can't move your character when you're menuing to pick moves and styles and its retarded to think you have to waggle your character around for the 2 second animations that take place between you picking attacks again and again

First and foremost, Lucario lost 60% of its hp to that attack. Secondly, being a fantasy monster doesn't mean physics don't apply. The power behind the attack of a Luxray that size would knock anything similar in size to a 10 year old or Lucario on its butt.

How so? They had expressive animations for taking damage in games like Battle Revolution and Stadium. Why has it still not been adopted yet when we're going full experimentation mode with PLA?

The puny kids yapping out orders not getting hit or targeted in any way is one of the few things I've always, always complained about when it comes to monster franchises. It's not like it hasn't been done before in a game (e.g. Zatch Bell Mamodo Fury), but I'm surprised they're actually exploring it.

Though given the turn-based mechanics and judging by how recent games have fared it's probably going to be executed poorly.

it Dragon Quest. The size of the monsters actually matters with stats and the number of skills you can have. you get a boost if a move with the same type is use consecutivly

Most pokemon players don't know type advantages or resistances.
You'll be lucky if Special & Physical still exist together in Legends since it doesn't suit the combat style also explains why Lucario has calm mind & 2 physical attacks cause tis probably gonna boost ATK & DEF as a whole not separate.

I can confirm, one of the most common questions I get, playfully, asked after "revealing my power level" Pokémon-wise is something akin to "do you actually know the type chart?" or "how effective is X type on Y" like knowing those actually cement me as a weeb.
