The best-case scenario objectively is monotyoe teams that actually take advantage of what the type can do (fir example, a Lanturn would help this team counter Ground types). Using other mons is just lazier for the same results.

you're both retarded. A [type] gym should have at least a majority of pokemon of that type, but if they want to add one non [type] pokemon, then it should have moves of that [type] to fit the themes of the gym leader

They did that with Elsea in BW since Emolga is immune to the main weakness of electric types. Gen 5 actually had quite a few electric types that weren't weak to ground including Galvantula and Eelektross. And iirc, Galvantula can even use energy ball, so it's a great example of a pokemon that could allow a mono type trainer to still have flexibility and coverage.
