I think the biggest thing going for the original movies was that they had creative freedom and direction to do things differently from normal Pokemon anime just being a showcase. They had genuinely engaging plots, and I think Koko recently had a very similar opportunity to be far more creative than the average film and it shows. Ash getting sidelined from main character status to a friendly side character was a really welcome change of pace, done so much better than The Power of Us. Fun characters, darker plot than usual, for its creativity alone I'd place it well above most of the other movies since those first 3. It's the first Pokemon movie in a long time that actually wanted to be a functional story first.
