Ash's Pikachu is technically "wild" as it was never officially caught. It actually escapes its Pokeball at its first appearance and refuses to be caught.

Meowth is also a wild Pokemon that just kinda hangs out with trainers.

So thinking about it more, that might be why Ash meets so many Legendary Pokemon.

Pokemon has always been about a low-key alien invasion, and if Pikachu is still wild, he's the best ambassador the God Pokemon have.

Ash still has Pikachu's Poke Ball, and when Dawn tried to catch it, the ball just bounced off because Pikachu is already registered to a Poke Ball. He just refuses to go in it.

There was literally an entire episode of Meowth trying to get Pikachu to return to its pokeball.

But yes Meowth is wild, it been "caught" multiple times
