I don't particularly care for them picking the weaker starter. but I kind of like them having another ace already. It can fit them better and they don't have to get a random starter pick every time they're portrayed in other media.

They're a bit flakier and crispier, a little bit like fried dough
They're actually pretty fucking good, if you don't have any place that sells them, the closest equivalent I've had is the Krispy Kreme donuts that are covered in sugar instead of glaze, though those aren't quite as nice and crispy

Not a fan, especially when their ace is route 1 trash like Raichu or Dubwool. If we had one who's ace was something threatening like Rhyperior or Snorlax, then I guess it could be ok.

That's kind of what they tried to do with Gladeon and Bede. Except Gladeon mellowed out pretty early on and Bede was the story's punching bag (although I give them credit for actually allowing him to be a complete jackass from start to finish).
