>>48090772What would they've had to change or add to make it more of a sequel in your eyes? Gen 2 added genders, breeding, weather, a day/night cycle and clock, held items, etc.
It also made important changes to the battle system like special being split into special attack and defence, some status changes working differently, and speed no longer affecting crit rate.
It's an iterative sequel sure, but so are many sequels, and the core gameplay was good and its full potential hadn't been explored yet.
