I think Xiuhcoatl is the much better basis if you want an Aztec fire snake.
Also, I don't think this is per say nessacary but I'm dumping info anyways, the spiral/meander patterns you have on the final evolution is more a greek meander/fret pattern then an Aztec one. The fret/meander pattern seen in Mesoamerican art, including Aztec art, looks like this, though there are variations, of course.
