That's not Gold or Silver (Crystal was directed by Masuda) and Tajiri's original vision is better reflected in gen 1 games, while gen 2 games were more experimental, as evidenced by leaked betas.

Crystal is just an improvement of GS that takes full advantage of the Gameboy Color and some other improvements. They only major difference is the forced Suicune encounter, which I'm not sure if Tajiri liked or disliked. RBY and GS never forced the player to encounter legendary Pokemon, whereas all of Masuda's games do.

People spin this way out of proportion too. The only time you have to encounter the Beasts to progress the story is at Ecruteak to awaken them. After that you can completely ignore them, and even Eusine's encounters you can skip.

Wait, so after burned tower, those were optional? I though those were meant to happen!
I always catched Suicune in the end, and then walk around until Entei or Raikou happened by accident.

This is true, but you can go all the way to Red without actually entering a battle with any Legendary Pokemon. All you *have* to do is the cutscene in the basement of Burned Tower.
