I always equated Psychic with Mind Powers (that's why it's super effective against Fighting types, jockhead musclebros can't into big brain thoughts), so Bug is super effective against psychic because bugs can crawl into your head and eat away at your thoughts. Or maybe you have these little annoying thoughts BUGGING you and you can't concentrate. But that probably doesn't work in Japanese language so it's more likely to be brain maggots.

Bugs, ghosts, and darkness(both literal darkness and evil shit so it works either way) are things people generally have an innate fear of as opposed to more situational things, especially kids. The other things tend to be more personal problems as opposed to the sort of thing a horror movie would focus on to disturb general audiences. When was the last time you saw thunder used for anything more than a jump scare vs the number of ghost stories there are? How many kids (prior to whatever trauma the whole pandemic thing is causing kids currently) are worried about disease/getting sick unless it's currently relevant to thier personal lives vs how many kids keep a night light on to fight their fear of the dark at bed time every single night for months/years? Every time a bee buzzes by everyone freezes until it leaves out of fear of getting stung and spiders often make even adults run screaming despite being perfectly normal everyday things to encounter that aren't gonna hurt you most of the time, meanwhile most people aren't gonna freak out over a lit candle or a fire pit unless someone's being an idiot with no regard for safety or things are out of control in which case being afraid and doing something about it like putting it out or evacuating to a safe location is what's gonna save your ass.

Just kind of vague fantasy logic. The idea of one mythological creature having power over another. Depending on the source, fairies can be considered amongst the more powerful beings. Also dragons are often associated with chaos and danger whereas fairies can be associated with natural order.
