That’s bullshit though, I just recently played crystal and barely did any rematches and the only thing si struggled with were the first two gyms because I picked chiko instead of the lame fire possum

using starter (not chiko) + 1 extra mon (like kenya or the sheep)+ shiny gyarados gets you through most of the game without issue

youre supposed to be under leveled, its called difficulty. The badge boosts and items should be enough to make up for it anyways. Also its one of the few game they actually punishes for not carrying a certain typing.
