Do you realize how hard that would be? The whole point is that you become champion, if you lost at the champion's cup, canonically you'd have to wait another YEAR. Obviously the game wouldn't make you wait a year, so it'd literally just skip to the point where you could challenge it again anyway. At least give an actual suggestion of how the story could change from losing if you're so mad about it. Fun fact btw, in the first two Hop battles you can lose and the game continues.

I wouldn't go as far as alternate endings and stuff but letting you lose to the rivals for different dialogue would be nice, hop and bede get cucked so hard every battle you actually feel bad sweeping them. Like if hop beats you once or twice earlier he wont have as much of an autistic breakdown or if bede beats you instead of getting fired by rose he ends up at the championship and becomes the fairy leader for some other reason like Opal couldn't make it and let Bede tag in because he has fairy types on his team or something

Why would you want a game where you can only lose? Hop’s story is what you are looking for I guess, but why would you want to play though that? The closest thing you can do is lose to an NPC and delete your save lol

In Red/Blue, losing to Gary in the finale of the game is treated as if it didn't happen. Upon beating Lance your next try, he still informs you that another trainer beat him before you as if its supposed to be surprising, Gary still speaks as though he's freshly gotten there and doesn't reference the fact he just beat you at all

Really Blue was such a perfect rival its amazing they never incorporated the mechanics or storyline for inspiration in later rivals.

He does it, well, kind of. His depressive anger is more notable when you beat him during the finals and when he loses to Sordward/Shielbert, though Hop is fine with the MC afterwards

As most games go, the alternative is just having you revert to a previous save when you lose. There would be no functional difference if you save before a battle.

This. As silly as MCs being Sues and Stus is, GF all but explicitly forbids proper Game Overs from Pokémon games.
The entirety of Colosseum, Kyurem in BW2, U-Necrozma, Eternatus, even Legends Arceus won't even consider it.
It's very much like GTA in that aspect, or rather the other way around. Only difference is you don't lose your stuff.
