>>48122814I would've preferred that as well but if that had actually been their intention they could've easily explained that from the start, referencing a ranch or daycare or whatever in in-game dialogue and presenting the PC as just a convenient interface for managing the pokemon there.
But since they didn't I don't think there was any reason to assume something like that existed outside of headcanon.
