It's not, I've hunted 4% mons and I've hunted 1% mons. It's amazing the difference just a few % makes. It's absolutely a slog, but it always feels good to achieve a difficult task you've embarked on. Something many of the posters here clearly don't understand, even if just in a game.

Use a Repel with a level 25 Pokémon in the lead on Routes 13 or 15 (or 14 at night) in GS to bring Chansey up to a 1/21 encounter rate (4.76%). The odds are lower in Crystal.

The only Pokémon you will encounter are Pidgeotto during the day and Noctowl at night. Max Speed you'll encounter is 52 (perfect HP level 28 Noctowl).

Pokémon (no trade evolutions) that can learn Thief through TM46 at level 25 with a base Speed of 96+ (guarantees escape)

I remember the 2nd gen VCs being a bit fucky with emulators exporting them in the wrong byte size or something though so make sure you keep a clean backup.

I wanted a lucky egg in HGSS. I put a pokemon with compoundeyes at the front of the party, and for some reason I was under the impression that it would increase the chance of getting a lucky egg to 20%. the first chansey I found had a lucky egg so I thought cool, it worked. I only found out a bit later that compoundeyes only increased the rate to 5%. obviously that's better than 1% but I still got really lucky.

I used a cheat code in Gold to make every encounter Chansey, then got lucky and stole it after only like 14 encounters. Felt more satisfying than just injecting it at least, but the legit grind would be insane

If anything, the french names always felt natural because that's all I would hear/see growing up. I got first introduced to the english names when I started playing on NetBattle back in the RSE era.

Nowadays, I do a mix of both, because I still play the physical games in French, but I also still play competitive fully in English on simulators. As a result, I tend to use (writing or thinking) the English names for Pokemons and moves that are used competitively, and the French names for the preevolutions or shitmons (or shitmoves).

Funnily enough, I started the Lucky Egg grind because I wanted to level up a Smeargle to Lv100 (using it to shinyhunt Celebi/Ho-oh/Lugia among others). I soon realized leveling it up with an ExpShare in MtSilver was gonna be much faster than finding a Lucky Egg and then use it for experience. I just went back to the chase for the sense of completion/rarity. I also got rewarded during the MtSilver Exp grind.
