I'll use your scorpion bug thing as an example.. let's compare it to Charjabug. What is charjabug based on? Well, it's based on many things like a beetle grub, a battery, accordion and a bus. However all these aspects are formed into a cohesive design that makes sense and the being itself feels like it can exist in the world. It's a bug that stores electricity, but can also release this electricity to defend itself, but it'll also help you on a camping trip if your generator dies.
Think about your weasel pokemon and patrat, or yungoos. What is your theme? What differentiates it from the other weasel pokemon? What design elements portray it's ability and type? Would I as a 10 yr old want a plain old weasel as my starter or would I want a rat that has glow-in-the-dark eyes and fur (patrat)
