>>48130016>>48130066People exagerate his involvement, as if he was solely responsible for the looks, when he was simply one of several artist sharing their skill to see what works and what doesn't for a live action Pokemon, balancing realism and cartoonyness, cuteness and grossness, depending on the case (Pikachu and Bulbasaur are cute, Loudred is gross, Mr. Mime and Mewtwo are uncanny, etc). All with the pokemon company's feedback. It goes to show how commited the people involved were to not half-ass things.
Contrast with the Sonic movie, in wich a very stubborn director made everyone to go along with a completely atrocious design, and when the backlash came (and Sega hd to make it clear they are not involved with the production), they had to overwork the hell out if the artists and animators to lift the design directly from the games and meet deadlines, and it only looked ok in comparison to the previous design.
It's baffling that people acted like the Sonic movie was the underdog of this story, let alone reward it.
