It lacks direction. Anything with vague undefined psysical strength is lumped into Fight, resulting in a lack of overall thematic identity. Fighting Type never decides if it wants to be martial arts or brute or etc. It's all over the place.

If it fights like a human, it's a Fighting type. It has a pretty clear identity. This applies even to the Muskedeers since they use their horns as swords.

They don't use Close Combat the same way bipeds do. When bipeds use it, it's a flurry of punches and kicks. And Close Combat couldn't even even be learned by any non-bipedal Pokemon in its debut gen, it only started being passed out as a coverage move later.

Close Combat = up-close physical confrontation.

Pokémon like Tyrantrum and Galarian Zapdos wouldn't be able to learn it if it actually required hands.

But in its debut gen, it did. All of the Pokemon that could learn it were bipeds that used the attack with their legs and hands (wings in Staraptor's case). It was clearly meant to be a flurry of punches and kicks.

The idea of it being any form of close-range attack is retarded. If a fucking fish can use it, then logically any Pokemon should be able to use Close Combat.

That's what the animation was but nothing else about the move suggests that. The Japanese name is "Infight", referring to infighting, and the move's description just says that the user fights up close without guarding itself. It's easiest to depict this with kicks and punches but they're not necessarily required.

It was literally punches and kicks, even when used by a bird. Otherwise, it would have been a Normal-type move, not a Fighting type one. Every depiction of Close Combat has been with a Pokemon with the proper anatomy for it, we've never seen it be used in any way other than punching and kicking.

Depictions of moves even in the anime was often inconsistent. Just look at tri attack before it settled into fire ice and lightning at the same time.
