It's one of the worst pokemon designs there is, especially as a starter. The simple and almost subtle integration of ninja themes in Greninja that makes it work so well is the opposite in this guy and the results are disastrous. It's more of a cereal mascot or villain-of-the-week than a believable creature.

Greninja is a perfect Pokemon design. It's not my favorite, but the execution of a ninja frog is flawless because it takes the things we correlate with frogs like bent legs, long tongues, and webbed digits, and just slightly morphs them to give the impression of a ninja. It's so much better than shit like incineroar, inteleon, and cinderace, who are by far the three worst.

How can you defend Incineroar's fingers being thicker than his arms? Not to mention that he has stick legs in comparison to his built upper body.

The in-universe explanation would be that Incineroar has insane grip strength but in reality it looks retarded. I also don't like my Pokemon having jobs.
That being said, Incineroar is certainly better than abominations like Emboar and Cinderace. The former is a Chinese pig in a region based on New York and the latter looks like an anime girl.
