Think it's just people like animals as they mae sense in a living world, and I was the same as a kid, but growing up my tastes have completely switched, I've in general grown more fond of the odd and unnatural looking pokemon, like yeah could have a dog pokemon, or this weird dumb pair of keys the jiggles it's stolen keys at your foes, in a way they have a little more interesting and I've grown from hating magnemite to finding it kind of cute.

they've become too literal. magnemite and klink is a good example. magnemite has literal magnets, but between these its a cute cyclops monster. Klink is just a gear with eyes pasted on. Gen 5 magnemite would just be a floating magnet with eyes pasted on each end of it. Sending out klink or chandelure is about as fun conceptually as sending out a paper clip to battle for you. Chandelure is a literal chandelier. There are exceptions here and there but overall objectmons really fell off after gen 3.

Some are really great and among my favorites.
Some are alright.
And a few are absolutely terrible. Gens III-IV peaked with objectoms but the most recent ones have mostly been bed. Of those on that mage Gen V had the first ones I absolutely hated, the fucking icecream and gears.

Those based on extremely recognizable and complexe man-made things (Magnemite, Klefki, Klink line...etc) are immersion breaking
Those based on random stuff that can be found naturally (Muk) or extremely abstract things (Voltorb, Beldum...etc) are fine

It seems like objectmon hate didn't really become a big thing until gen 5, specifically the Vanillite and Trubbish lines. There was never any collective shittalking about a hot air balloon or mirror Pokemon, but the bottom fell out as soon as ice cream and trash bag hit the scene. I honestly really like Trubbish and Garbodor for their designs and what they represent, but "ew trash bag" is such an easy brainless point to make when you want to lazily shit on newer gens or gen 5 in particular.

Klink is two gears stuck together with eyes slapped on each. Magnemite are two magnets attached to a nut and bolt with eyes slapped on it. Magnemite is objectively more complex than Klink.
