only the other trainers you meet with
the games are set years apart and the threats arent usually that strong in the first place, i think team rocket is the only team that actually had any real staying power
they are pretty rare so i doubt much trouble is cause in reality, plus plenty of people own pokemon to defend against them
you dont have to date gym leaders, and the people inside are just students/followers you could easily become one if you wanted
this is true in real life, youll find at least one of the three in every single country on earth aside from maybe tribal reservations
